about

this is a largely acoustic ep i made for my wife joan in new york city, with the help of my friend tony conniff, who's a producer and bass player. it includes four love songs i wrote for her while she was still alive, and one i wrote for her after she died. i have to say these are the best love songs i ever expect to write. cg

tune down 1 whole step effective key of f

i was burning down this building g c
when you walked in through that door g c
i hid my gas can behind my back g c
i don’t burn nothing anymore d g

i was pissing on the future g c
when you sneaked in from the past g c
you’re not the first girl i ever let in here g c
but you may well be the last d g

now all my friend’s are hoping c
that i don’t burn you, too em
but i think i finally found the girl c d
who’s got the juice to keep me cool g

i was burning down this building g c
hell, i was burning up the world g c
i was dying in my own holy war g c
now i’m just living for a girl d g

break

now i go to work each morning g c
i race home every night g c
but i don’t run from sirens no more g c
i don’t flinch at flashing lights d g

instead i find myself hoping c
and baby, this is true em
that for just one more lucky morning c d
i’ll get to wake up next to you g

i was burning down this building g c
i was burning up the world g c
i was dying in my own holy war g c
now i’m just living for a girl d g
